Or play the game and win!
At work, we recently did the whole shift-bidding war thing. Knowing that I had a snowball's chance in hell of getting the shift I wanted, I decided to put that towards the middle of my list. Of course, being a newb here, that's where the powers that be would look for my assignment, right? I put something that I wouldn't mind but didn't really really want to the top of the priority list. Yeah.
I got my #1 choice. That's so wrong. The scheduling guys need to be re-schooled. You don't give the new guy exactly what he wants, especially when there are people who have been around for a while getting shitty shifts that they didn't want.
Not that I'm really complaining. After all, while I wanted a popular shift, many understand their chances and don't even try for it. Add to that, I actually wanted the shitty days off.
So now, I go from early morning to early afternoon shift to graveyard shift next month.
Who woulda thunk it?
But..
To complicate matters, my Mrs. got the shift I originally wanted. So, she'll be showing up to work just as I'm leaving, and I'll be leaving for work just as she's going to sleep. I can see it now, on the one day off we share (and I suppose I should be thankful for at least that), I'm gonna have to ask for some ID. Just to be sure.
